Handwritten Illuminated Bible by a Christian Prisoner

The Outcast Handmade Bible is to Include the Old Testament (2014-2019)

On behalf of a good friend of mine, I am honored to present to you this historical work in progress, an amazing project and the first handwritten illuminated Bible being made by a prisoner: the Outcast Handmade Bible.

Years ago, this friend of mine lost all he had, including his freedom. This life experience brought him closer to the Lord. His life is now a testimony of light in a dark place.

My name is Randy, I am 61 years old. I coordinate short-term mission trips to Europe for American churches.

In 2001 I founded a motorcycle group (The AOK Group, standing for Acts Of Kindness) for businessmen in the Atlanta area. My friend was one of the first members. As a result of his involvement in this group, I spent a considerable amount of time with him, both on the road and in his home. He was always a hard working, driven, and disciplined individual. And still is, even in prison.

The OHB project

This is a five year journey to create one unique handwritten illuminated Bible. It all started in October 13, 2014 with a two year goal to complete writing by hand the New Testament, Psalms and Proverbs. 

The goal was completed before the deadline and he decided to continue writing the Old Testament as well. By the end of 2019 with God's willing he would have the entire project completed.

Using his unique technique, the illuminated sections are inlaid with ordinary materials such as candy wrappers, discarded chip bags, and other recycled materials.  

We might think that he has a lot of time in his hand, but the truth is that he works on his detail Mon - Thu anywhere between ten to twelve hours. In the state of Georgia inmates don't get paid a for their labor in prison.
